Guest Services

The Convocation Center has a full-service guest relations desk to address any questions and needs that may arise. The facility features conveniently located and accessible restrooms, telephones, water fountains and concession stands.

We strive to pay attention to all the details, exceed guests' expectations, and take genuine pride in making experiences at our facility the very best possible. We want to develop a lifelong relationship with our guests, ensuring their return to future events.

 

Guest Code of Conduct

The NIU Convocation Center is committed to providing an enjoyable and safe environment for all guests. We are committed to exceeding our guest’s expectations by providing excellent customer service. Guests attending an event at the NIU Convocation Center event expect a safe and clean environment, concessionaries that serve a variety of quality food, and courteous and knowledgeable staff.

The conduct of each guest must be bounded by the law and the right of others to enjoy the event, and should not offend or be abusive to others.  

All guests are asked to adhere to the following code of conduct:

  • Guests shall be respectful of all other guests, fans, participants, referees, entertainers, athletes, arena staff and arena property.
  • Guests shall not willfully or maliciously disturb a guest/employee with a loud unreasonable noise and shall not interfere in other guests’ enjoyment of the event.
  • Guests who drink alcoholic beverages shall do so in a responsible manner.
  • Guests shall smoke only in designated exterior locations.
  • Guests shall refrain from using offensive language, making obscene gestures, throwing objects, and possessing prohibited items.
  • Guests shall never enter the playing area, the performance area or interfere with the event in any fashion.
  • Guests shall comply with the direction and instructions of NIU Convocation Center staff.
  • Any other conduct deemed by NIU Convocation Center to be inappropriate to the peace and good order of events or which may adversely affect the safety of persons or property will be handled immediately by our staff.
  • All NIU Convocation Center guests are expected to maintain reasonable and appropriate behavior at all times.

    Guests who fail to comply with NIU Convocation Center Code of Conduct & Courtesy are subject to ejection.

 

Clear Bag Policy

NIU Athletics has implemented a clear bag policy to provide a safer environment to the public and to expedite guest entry into the Convocation Center and Huskie Stadium.

Guests will be able to carry the following style and size bag into the venue

  • Bags that are clear plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12”x12”x6”.
  • One-Gallon clear plastic freezer bag
  • Small clutch bag/purse no larger than 5.5”x8.5”x3”
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection of the bag.

Prohibited bags include but are not limited to backpacks, clear backpacks, computer bags, coolers, duffel bags, camera bags, purses larger than clutch or any bag larger than the permissible size.  All bags are subject to inspection.

 

Prohibited Items

The Convocation Center performs bag searches on all guests. These searches are intended to detect prohibited items including:

  • Alcoholic Beverages or controlled substances
  • Bags, backpacks, duffels, large purses, camera bags (small purses okay)
  • Laser pointers of any kind
  • Coolers, bottles, cans, containers, or projectiles
  • Weapons, flammables, or other potentially dangerous items
  • Aerosol containers or any pressurized container
  • Food or beverages
  • Horns, noisemakers, whistles or banners
  • Large cameras, large video cameras
  • Any illegal substances
  • Posters, signs, or banners on sticks
  • Helium balloons
  • Umbrellas
  • Mono-pods or tri-pods
  • Selfie sticks
  • Posters, signs or banners
  • Medical staff is available at all events. First aid is located at entrance one in the north lobby.

  • POLICY

    Backstage Access

    The backstage area is secured for all events. Only approved personnel with proper credentials will be admitted. There are no exceptions. Individuals found entering or in the backstage area without proper credentials will be ejected from the facility.

    Cellular Phones and Communication Devices

    All devices must be in silent mode while inside the facility for events.

    Camera Policy

    Each event's camera policy varies. Please refer to your ticket for details. Events ticketed by Ticketmaster do not permit professional cameras or video recordings. Any individual possessing these items will have their camera confiscated. If you are a member of the media, please request a media pass from the marketing department at least two weeks prior to the desired event. Contact 815-752-6800 with any questions or concerns.

    Food and Beverages

    No outside food or beverages are permitted in the facility. These items must be returned to your vehicle or disposed of before entry is granted.

    Media

    Members of the media must contact the Convocation Center to request passes for event reviews, photos, material distribution, lobby space, advertising, etc. at least one week prior to the event date.

    Re-Entry

    Re-entry is not allowed for the facility. An un-scanned ticket must be presented for entry to be permitted.

    Smoking Policy

    No smoking or flammables are permitted inside the facility. An outdoor smoking area is provided at Entrance one through the northern-most doors. You must have your hand stamped to permit re-entry. Re-entry from other doors is not permitted.

    Tailgating

    The NIU Convocation Center parking lot is utilized as a parking area for NIU home football games. Tailgating is permitted during these events in conjunction with Northern Illinois University policies. Tailgating for other events is not permitted.

    Solicitation, Distribution, and Expressive Activities Policy

    NIU permits and encourages discussion and expression of all views throughout the entire academic community. Students may support any cause by legal, orderly means that neither disrupt the operation of the University nor interfere with the rights of others.   • Security is managed in-house in conjunction with the DeKalb Police Department and NIU Department of Police and Public Safety to provide protection for the facility, guests and performers. Our security system features indoor and outdoor closed-circuit TV cameras, monitors, door alarms and outdoor security lighting.

    Crowd barricade is used at concerts and major events immediately in front of the stage. Crowd surfing and mosh pits are prohibited.

    Off-Duty Police Officers

    If you are an off-duty law enforcement official and will be visiting the Convocation Center, please contact the Convocation Center in advance at 815-752-6800 to make arrangements.
