ADA Accommodations

Our commitment is to making events accessible to all of our guests. We offer a number of services to aid our guests with special needs, including ushering, easy-access seating, convenient disabled parking and first aid. In addition, drinking fountains and restrooms provide wheelchair accessible features.

All events have planned ADA seating areas, but this space is limited by the pre-event demand expectations. For assistance, call 815-752-6800.

  • Ticketed Events

NIU is committed to providing accessible seating opportunities to all patrons. For this reason, we provide the opportunity to purchase tickets for accessible seating through the same means and under the same terms and conditions as other tickets are sold for each event or series of events held in the building. However, designated accessible seating is limited. It is advised, therefore, that requests for accessible seating be made in advance.

Accessible seating is located on the arena floor (subject to event and availability) and main concourse level.

When a patron has purchased, or otherwise acquired, a ticket to non-accessible seating, and that patron requires accessible seating, NIU will attempt to accommodate that individual and his or her companions if accessible seating comparable to the purchased ticket remains available. If such seating is not available, the patron and his or her companions will be offered available accessible seating in a non-comparable location. Because events may sell out, it is advised that all accessible seating requests be made in advance. Exchanges of tickets to non-accessible seating for tickets to accessible seating are on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no guarantee that accessible seating will be available.

When a patron has purchased a ticket to accessible seating and then transfers that ticket to an individual who does not require accessible seating, NIU reserves the right to move that individual and his or her companions to the closest available or comparable non-accessible seating.

    Graduation Ceremonies

The Convocation Center has permanent spaces designated for persons with disabilities. If you have a person that would like to be dropped off near the entrances, please let the parkers know as you enter the drive of the Convocation Center. They will then direct you.

The Convocation Center is an arena where all the seating (except for ADA) is accessed via at least one step. To aid in understanding the setup of this venue, please consult the West End Stage seating info.

The Convocation Center has ample seating space for those in wheelchairs. Special tickets are not required and seating is general admission. Guests will be responsible to bring any special equipment (wheelchair, walker, etc.) they may need.

  • Elevators are located near Entrance 2 at the Suite Entrance. There are no escalators at the The NIU Convocation Center.

  • Sign language interpreter services are available free of charge. Please contact us main office at 815-752-6800 at least two weeks in advance of the event.

  • All public restrooms on all levels of the Convocation Center are accessible.

  • The NIU Convocation Center welcomes patrons who require the use of a service dog. All service animals must remain on a leash or in a harness at all times.

Guests using a service animal will be responsible for the animal's care and supervision when present at the NIU Convocation Center.

  • Accessible seating can be purchased online at or through the Convocation Center box office.
